Okay so this year I'm in the market for a new climbing stand because hunting public ground is going to require me to make a lot of adjustments and be mobile.
I've never hunting using a hand climber so first off, those of you that have used one, how do you like them?
Next question ... I want to keep the price tag around $250 if I can so whats the best bang for my buck in that price range & what's the lightest stand you'd recommend because I want something I can easily pack in & out on those deep hikes.
Thanks guys!

Summit makes several open front options that are in the $270 range, The open shot and cobra are a couple. I hunt out of a viper x5 and a goliath because I'm a pretty big boy. They're comfortable and light. My favorite climber ever was an API Grand slam supreme magnum that I had stolen. I would love to find anothr one to buy, It wasn't light but man it was comfy. There's plenty of options out there now.

We have two summits and they are nice. Make sure you get one with a bar across the seat. One of the ones we have doesn't have it and absolutely kills your abs

A little on the heavy side for long hikes but I think they have a lighter aluminum version these days I might need to look into.

Both of mine are aluminum and I think they weigh around around 19 pound. The one api I have left weighs 23. The X stand is one I've been hearing a lot about around here. It was designed by some guys down around Lexington if I'm not mistaken, supposedly lightest stand on the market but expensive.

We love our Summit's! I hunt out of a Goliath and the wife out of a Viper SD. That said the new Sentry SD with the flip up seat has gotten my attention, I always liked that about the hang-ons I use to hunt out of....

That's a nice feature! I've had several occasions where I was trying to adjust the seat back on my climber so I could get into a better shooting position. I'll have the check them out!

I had a Summit Viper and hardly ever used it so I sold it. I didn't like it for these reasons: heavy, bulky, loud to carry through the woods do to the bulk, had to have a telephone pole tree to use it. I felt like had to sacrifice by hunting a tree that would work instead of the exact spot. I bought a 7.5lb Lone Wolf Assualt and a set of Hawk Helium sticks for my mobile setup.

What I did like about my Viper: it was easy to climb with and very comfortable.
I might try a LW hand climber

I push my cables in to the last adjustment slot and I use a bungee strap to tighten up up the platform and seat on my summit after I pack it together. It doesn't make much noise. After packing a the big bulky Warren and sweat cottonwood and an original tree lounge in the mid - late 90's i thought any stand under 20 pounds was a joy to pack.

No I haven't. What I like about my Assault is I can hang it in about any tree.

Do you pack in for morning hunts and set up in the dark or do you hang the night before and take down the next morning after the hunt? It would be nice to hunt any tree and a hang on allows that but I'd be a bit nervous trying to safely hang all that in the dark. Maybe its not so bad with a headlamp or something - I've never tried. That is an option though that would allow me to hunt where the sign is vs where a climbable tree is.
