With all the big buck pics being posted, it got me thinking. How much does everybody spend annually on deer hunting property? I use to pay between $2-3k a year depending on how many people I let hunt on the property I leased. Last year I spent 0 and didn't have a very good season. I'm doing the public ground hunting again this year, but I did a ton of scouting during the spring and feel like I can duplicate the same type of success I had this year compared to when I was spending the money. I'd like to get a property leased for next year, but I'm anxious to see what I can produce off public ground this fall. Do most of you own your hunting property or do you shell out the big $$ to get the prime spots?

I lease two place's one is cheap enough and close to home I almost don't even count it. The other is what I consider to be my main spot and I'm really happy with it. We've only killed two bucks off it since 2012 but the landowner is super and I feel like it's MY spot! He keeps an eye on it and has a reputation for doing so. I've been at this game a while and I've lost some good places to outfitters and landowner family suddenly deciding they want to hunt deer. I spend a lot of time up there, and way more time dreaming about it. I shoot 3D in the summer and hunt bucks year round with my cameras. I'm not paying for a deer at my lease I'm buying use of the land

I spent $1875 for 145 acres on my lease last year. Blew it on a big 12 there last year. Probably won't renew it this year as the neighbor put cattle on it and cleared a bunch of atv trails in the woods. I'm currently looking for a new lease to split with my dad and I'm willing to spend up to about $3000 but it has to be the right spot. The rest of my spots I hunt for free. Our family owns a 500 acre farm that is mostly tillable but we know pretty much all of the land owners within 5 miles of it and can hunt on most of it. Also have a really good 200 acre farm in bluff country that my dads cousin owns. Always some giants around there. Hoping to find some spots closer to home too maybe even some public.

I never have leased land. I own two farms and have a lot of family that owns land I hunt on. And then several farms that I just hunt with permission.

As for how much do I spend? After costs associated with living, nearly all that's left is spent on hunting

I haven't spent a dime so far for hunting land. My main piece is 120 acres that my gma owns that my dad is in the process of buying. A lot if it is farm ground with a 40 and a 20 acre piece of timber. My uncle owns another piece I hunt. It is mainly ag with a few brushy draws/fence rows. The biggest buck I have ever gotten in camera was on this piece. He was north of 200" a good bit. I have a lot of public within a few miles if my house that I haven't hunted much, but hope to more in the future. Not actively looking but would be open to acquiring a lease in the future.

It varies for me from state to state. MD, I hunt for the price of tags (hunt all public land and do very well after YEARS of learning) PA, I hunt for the price of tags. Hunt my dads farm I grew up on OH, I have 3500 in my lease +tags+hotel. My old man and I split the cost and have a good friend that hunts with us.

I currently do not have anything leased. All of my places are permission and public.

When I lived in Canada I could hunt pretty much anywhere with just the knock of a door and hand shake, but down here in the south literally everybody and their dog hunts. You're lucky to even find a piece of ground to lease and when you do its usually super expensive.

I've always hunted mostly public land. My family owns around 300 acres but I have a lot of family that hunts it and they kill everything.. so I never hunt it. I was fortunate enough to gain permission to hunt My Fiancee's families land and now we've actually just bought another house with small acreage in area that should hold deer. I'm looking forward to scouting and running cameras the next couple of months.

As far as leading me and a buddy have been looking for a?lease in northern or western Ky but I can't justify 25-27 dollars an acre to hunt. I would rather lease a place out of state if I ever can.

I hunt in Vermilion County Illinois. It's really a hard place to even find a lease and when you do you PAY for it. I luckily have 3 places I have permission to hunt on. A 380 acre piece that's about 100 acres of woods, a 240 acre place that's only about 70 acres of woods but it's a lot of ravines and fingers. My best spot is only 30 acres but it is primo property. I've taken 4 nice bucks off that place in the last 5 years.

I used to lease a 300 acre farm with 3 other guys in central Mo. for 500 a year each person. Now I hunt my bosses 380 acre farm for free with his grandson. We are the only hunters and just have to deal with cattle movement and neighbors. And truthfully I don't know which is worse.
