how many of you guys are into 3D? i got into 3D shortly after i started bowhunting. i had thought i was a pretty good shot but after my first shoot i realized i had a lot of room for improvement. personally i feel any hardcore trophy hunter will benefit from shooting 3D. it will run all the bugs out of your equipment. form will become more automatic and proficiency with your bow will almost assuredly improve* (target panic is a whole other issue) the pressure from competition won't simulate exactly making that one chance shot on a monster buck but it will help you learn how to perform under pressure. we have to keep it together in the moment of truth, since our whole season could be riding on one shot.

i sure hope that post doesn't come across as preachy. i have some friends that really hunt hard and do everything right but can't shoot! why would a guy spend all that time money and sweat hunting for a big buck and then blow it because they can't make the shot. cody, take my soap box away!!!

The wife and I shoot 3D every chance we get. I agree with you - shooting under pressure helps you learn how to keep it together when that big buck you've been after is at 15 yards. We worked a lot of bugs out of the wife's shooting on the 3D course. Shooting in a different environment, with people watching will amplify your mistakes in form - great way to learn and be better for sure.

I actually shoot a ton of 3d in the summers. However, last year I switched my bow over to a moveable sight and learned to shoot a hinge. I hunt with a fixed pin sight and wrist release. It has made me a much better shooter and I am much more confident in my yardage estimation and shot placement.
If you enjoy shooting your bow and shoot often I strongly suggest you learn how to shoot a hinge. It is awesome!

Probably a dumb question but I've never really shot 3d. Is there a certain season?

Probably a dumb question but I've never really shot 3d. Is there a certain season? most clubs here start up shooting in march or april and shoot monthly until sept. 3-Dshoots.com should have listings for clubs in you area.
