Just looking to get a good conversation going and to get B.O.W to come alive for the start of the 2019 season. Any changes in anyone’s approach to closing in and killing their buck this year? Or just sticking with what works?
I am 99% a hunt with my stand on my back bowhunter. Have been hunting that way for well over 15 years (before it recently became the cool way lol). I’ve managed to trim down my mobile set up 6.5 lbs total. Huge difference.
And this is the first in 2 years that I feel like my head is “back in the game” after getting life re organized. Looking back now, I’ve been hunting very sloppy the last 2 seasons and it has cost me..... Now Back to making every step in the woods on purpose and hunting how I used too. Going to be a great season!!!!

I’ve been watching a lot of “The Hunting Public “ since I’ve been down and out with my hand surgeries . And well I’m not as young and fit like these guys it has got me to rethink about how I need to get more mobile and go after them way of thinking instead of just relying on my cameras and normal stand setups. I’m gonna try more ground and pound with natural brush in sets

I’ll be hunting more at the house this year with the addition of the new property. I’ll still be hunting my lease on days off but the added acreage at the house will let me hunt most every evening after work without burning my stands out. I’ll try to hunt low impact at the house to keep from pushing deer off me and out of the area, but I’m going to be really aggressive on my lease. Each year I get about a 1 week time frame where new big bucks are all over the cameras during shooting hours before they disappear and return to whatever hole they came out from, so I’m going to hunt hard during that window. I’m probably the most unprepared I’ve ever been (having a newborn changes some priorities) but I’m feeling more confident going into this season than I have in a long time. Season opens September 28th.

Biggest difference for me this year is that we are working on a food plot for our lease. Hoping that will make the difference in the early and late season when the bucks weren’t usually on the property. Another thing I’m going to do is use last years trail cam pics to predict where the buck I’m after this year will be. I’ve heard a lot of times they will do the exact same thing + or - 3 days every year. I have a lot of daylight pics of this buck from last year and if he does do that he will be in trouble.

Any pics of the new plot?? I haven’t taken any yet. It’s a work in progress. The field is at the bottom of a major ridge so we can’t get any major equipment there so it’s been a bit of task getting the tall weeds cleared. We sprayed last time and bought a disk for the 4wheeler so hopefully next time we will get a lot more done.

Well hopefully it will pay off for you guys my food plot adventure has to wait till next year we couldn’t get in the equipment to push the sm trees and saplings because of all the flooding . It’s gonna be a interesting year with all these empty fields and late planted fields for sure .

Make sure you take some weights or cinder blocks and straps to weigh down the disc. Works much better when pulling behind a 4 wheeler.

Dont get me wrong, going to a fixed stand has its up sides too. I have 4 fixed stands on our 11 acres i hunt, but they are in the 4 best spots and not much room to move. The 1000s of acres of public land I mainly hunt in MD brings a whole new feel of “opening day” every time I hunt by staying on the move

Using past years pics has helped me a ton in the past kill my biggest buck yet when it dawned on me where he had been a few years ago went back in that steam and killed him at 11 solely on a hunch he’d be back..... hoping the new big deer I’ve seen a handful of times this summer that seems to have the same summer patterns as my big deer does the same thing this year This year I’m going to stick with what works 3rd year on our illinois lease and really feel like we’re figuring it out have had luck with big bucks every year but excited for this year even tho not much for big buck pics so far.... I never got to make it down during the rut last year due to work and that absolutely will not happen this year

I'm going to try to hit it pretty hard and strike quick in early season. I've got a couple contenders that are in a good pattern if they stay on it until 9/7. Thet are on private land so maybe that's a plus.. I've implemented a new feed in my areas thanks to Alan. It has definitely increased the deer traffic on my feeders just not getting the bucks I'm hoping for on camera yet. When they move off these strip mined field edges and the acorns drop it should help some.

I told myself this year I will have more fun. It's sounds lame but I hunt a lot and sometimes loose focus on the real reason I do it. It's because I enjoy it. So I am going to hunt as hard as always but not stress myself out so much. Just have fun and kill stuff.
